Baby Formula vs Breastmilk

Published by Malira Dai on 29th Mar 2019

From the time they are born, what a baby consumes will build their immune system for life. Baby formula has been known to increase a baby's risk of infection in the digestive tract and place them at a higher risk of illness. When only the mother's breast milk is consumed, illnesses such as childhood leukemia, asthma, diabetes, eczema, ear infections, respiratory tract infections and other symptoms of low immunity decrease.

I spoke with a mother yesterday who inquired about my lactation herbal tea blend because she's having trouble producing milk. She sent me a commercial brand formula she's been using and I decided to research it for my own records. The information I found was very alarming. Unfortunately, the formula contains soy which has been linked to cancer and high levels of aluminum which is toxic to the nervous system and kidneys. Furthermore, the formula contains chemically processed vegetable oil made from seeds that aren’t found in nature. Even worse (drum roll please), it also contains potassium chloride; a chemical used in lethal injections. I can go on but hopefully you get the picture.

Look at the label. How many of you are able to identify and pronounce all of those ingredients? If you can't pronounce or identify an ingredient, chances are you shouldn't consume it.

Commercial companies don't care about making your child healthy. Their main goal is to make money and they make billions to be exact from formulas that are more expensive and less healthy. Baby formula is packed with genetically modified corn, more than 50% artificial sugar and fortified with synthetic vitamins and minerals. Keep in mind, if something is synthetic it is made of artificial material.

We also discussed the fact that the baby is fussy which makes sense because formula can be very hard to digest and it stays in the stomach longer than breast milk. So if you're struggling with breastfeeding and would like to try a natural solution, free of chemicals and artificial ingredients I suggest trying my lactation herbal tea blend. It assists with supporting a healthy lactation and enhancing breast milk production.

What's more important to breastfeeding is diet. Diet and breastmilk production go hand in hand. I suggest staying hydrated and eating an abundance of plant based foods to promote overall wellness which will help promote quality breastmilk.

Breastmilk contains antibodies that help fight off viruses and bacteria. It contains a perfect mix of vitamins, proteins and fat needed for growth and development. It is easily digestible, it supports a healthy weight for both mom and baby and it can also improve maternal-infant bonding.

I understand there are limitations when it comes to breastfeeding and not every woman will be able to breastfeed due to various reasons but there are alternatives to store bought formula like this homemade baby formula alternative recipe.

What you'll need:

This formula is as simple as soaking the dates in water until soft, blending all ingredients in a high powered blender and using a cheesecloth to strain. Store in fridge for 2-3 days and freeze unused portions for later use.
